Late February is a time you gotta have some vision here in Central Oregon. There is still snow on the ground, but if you want to have a garden you are making space in the house for garden starts.
On Monday we had the second meeting of the year for our county Democratic Party. It was my second meeting as chair. I messed up the invite and the Zoom link didn't work. I had to scramble to get it to everybody. Still, some were shut out by technology and my bumbling.
Despite that trouble, we had a larger turnout than I have seen in a year. In the meeting we discussed and made decisions about how we can help our community. We talked about supporting the Latino community and we talked about the upcoming May elections. We talked about the Oregon legislative session. We exchanged information and ideas.
This is a rural county, quite Republican, but there are Democrats here. There are independents here. They are diverse in knowledge, skills, and belief. When we have a social meeting I learn about the rivers and land here, the people who made the community what it is, and what is on the hearts of my neighbors. These people help me grow and direct me to the light.
I know that organizations other than the Democratic Party are also attracting more people this February. People with skills, with heart-guided strength, with ideas.
These are our garden starts.
