Today is for Joy (poem)
Found this when pulling up poems for submissions and felt called to release it to the world. I hope it lands well with you.
Untangling the charging cables in my work pack, I hear
“Today is for joy”
As if there was something that could proscribe such things, as if something could call it out from on high.
That today is for joy.
As if a day was for something.
That today the river just below flowed with particularity
different than any other day, that my body called to live differently one day to another.
As if a day could be put in a cup and drank.
I coiled the cables. They will become tangled again.
I went for my fishing pole and for the trail where sun bolts kept cutting the dust.
I came to the river,
I tangled my line,
Then untangled it, then tangled it again.
Today is for joy, the time is passing in it.
Perhaps joy is the cup.
